TRANSITION-AGE FOSTER YOUTH (TAY) PROGRAMS

At any given time, Marin County has 25–35 transition-age youth in the foster care system preparing to step into adulthood—often without the consistent support systems many young people rely on during this critical stage of life.

As youth transition out of care, they face complex challenges related to housing, education, employment, transportation, and connection. We have seen firsthand how the right support at the right time can create a stronger foundation for long-term stability and success. In response, our leadership has prioritized expanding services for transition-age foster youth (TAY) to help ensure they have the resources, relationships, and opportunities needed to thrive as they move toward independence.

While stable housing remains essential, we also recognize that meaningful support extends beyond basic needs. Access to mentorship, work experience, extracurricular opportunities, and reliable transportation can make a lasting difference in a young person’s confidence, well-being, and future opportunities.

Our TAY Programs provide:

  • Mentorship and guidance to help youth navigate life transitions, build confidence, develop life skills, and prepare for education and employment opportunities

  • Internship support that provides real-world work experience and career exploration opportunities

  • Car grants to help youth access school, work, and essential services

  • Opportunity Project funding for extracurricular activities, enrichment programs, and personal growth opportunities

  • Summer adventure support that allows youth to travel, explore new places, and build lasting memories

Together, these programs help transition-age foster youth build independence, strengthen connections, and move toward adulthood with greater stability, confidence, and opportunity.
